Course Description:
Partner with Forward Motion and Dr. Jefferson Johnson to contemplate best practices for conducting TTBB ensembles. Using a brand new text edited by Donald Trott (and featuring Johnson), students will examine the history of TTBB ensembles, classroom management, recruiting, choral sound preferences, strategies for teaching vocal production, roles of women in the field, and review repertoire. Students will also utilize a video presentation by Dr. Johnson to study the two main issues facing changed-voice male singers: tone quality and intonation. By the end of the course, you will have a clear vision for your TTBB ensemble, techniques to realize your goals, and fresh repertoire to engage your singers.
This course is intended for teachers and choral conductors at any point in their career. No pre-requisite required. Students will need internet access to complete online video content available at www.fwdmotion.org, a purchased copy of the text Conducting Men’s Choirs edited by Donald Trott, and basic word and publisher processing skills.

Course Components:
This course includes online video lectures, text and article reading assignments, and a variety of comprehension assignments. All coursework instructions and videos will be found on www.fwdmotion.org. Some articles may need to be accessed with a free personal JSTOR account. Completed coursework should be submitted online via the interactive Forward Motion module available immediately after registration and sign-in. Students must receive a passing grade to receive university credit by earning “acceptable” or “excellent” on each assignment rubric.
