Dr. Gary Seighman is Director of Choral Activities at Trinity University. Under his direction, Trinity’s choirs have garnered regional and national accolades with invited conference performances, tours throughout the United States and abroad, and innovative collaborations. A charismatic and passionate artist, Seighman is highly sought after as a clinician, guest conductor, and speaker.
Seighman has traveled to East Asia five times since 2015 where he conducted for the Peking University Summer Opera Program, led graduate masterclasses in Taiwan, and guest conducted throughout China. His professional schedule since 2019 has included speaking and conducting engagements in Nashville, New York City, Missouri, Washington, DC, Hong Kong, London, and Dublin. Seighman was recently named as a guest faculty artist with Manhattan Concert Productions for whom he will conduct Mozart’s Requiem at Carnegie Hall in June 2022. Also, he is a frequent panelist on the webinar series “In the Teacher’s Lounge” through Worldstrides, Inc.
His collegiate choirs have performed for the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention, the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO), and the College Music Society (CMS) National Conference. In 2018, he was chorusmaster for the Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt and Vienna, Austria. Having previously taught in the public schools and as music director at the historic Church of the Ascension & St. Agnes in Washington, DC, he is equally at home working with professional choirs, youth choruses, and everything in between. Locally, he has served as chorusmaster for numerous engagements with the San Antonio Symphony.
Seighman has helped introduce many new works to the choral repertoire involving joint premieres and collaborations with New York Polyphony, Cantus, Chanticleer, Dale Trumbore, Dan Forrest, Andrew Smith, and Ēriks Ešenvalds, to name a few. As an arts advocate, he has served on the boards of the National Collegiate Choral Organization, the Children’s Chorus of San Antonio, the DC/MD Choral Director's Association, and is a regular grant reviewer for the Texas Commission on the Arts in Austin, TX. Always eager to explore new creative outlets, Seighman is signed with Avant Modeling Agency and has been featured in print, internet, and television. He holds degrees from Westminster Choir College, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Maryland.
