Women are generally underrepresented as composers in our programming. The goal is to help broaden awareness of the literature available and encourage conductors to intentionally include women on a consistent basis. All conductors--whether experienced, new in the field, or students--can benefit from this session as we explore repertoire composed by women.

Dr. Sandra Peter is the Acting Director of Choral Activities at Stetson University (DeLand, FL), where she conducts Choral Union and the Stetson Men.  From 1991-2013, she taught at Luther College (Decorah, IA), conducting Aurora (treble voices) and Cathedral Choir (mixed voices).  Her choral works are published by MorningStar, Carl Fischer, and Neil Kjos, and she contributed chapters to Conducting Women's Choirs: Strategies for Success (GIA Publications).  Active as a festival clinician throughout the US and abroad, Dr. Peter is a member of ACDA, NCCO, College Music Society, and Chorus America.  She holds degrees from Concordia College (Moorhead, MN), the University of Arizona, and the University of Iowa.
