Unpacking the bias in our curriculum and in ourselves is a difficult but necessary process in creating and sustaining a choral community in which all singers feel welcomed and see themselves reflected and respected in our daily work in choral spaces. This work also requires a fundamental shift in who and what represent “excellence” in our choirs and how we receive, perceive and teach music by and about marginalized and minoritized people.

This interactive session will offer strategies, resources and learning activities that build bridges, reframe narratives and affirm your students’ lived experiences.  By participating in course cohorts, session goers will practice applying Culturally Relevant Pedagogy to repertoire that represent diverse lived experiences.
